How to develop self-esteem and self-confidence in children

Self-esteem plays an important role in the development of a healthy child. Children with high self-esteem tend to become more successful in life. Conversely, low self-esteem can greatly harm a child in adulthood. Therefore, the task of parents is to develop a healthy self-esteem and self-confidence in the child.

Children with high self-esteem easily and confidently try new activities for themselves and feel pride in their achievements. Of course, the experience of failure is not pleasant for anyone, but children with high self-esteem have sufficient emotional strength to cope with this. In addition, they have the courage to try again.

Children with low self-esteem are self-critical. It is difficult for them to be positive about the mistakes made. This often leads to the fact that such children abandon further attempts to succeed.

Children can be sensitive and sharply react to peers not perceiving their actions. Therefore, in such cases, how parents treat them and what atmosphere reigns at home is of great importance. It is very important that the child has a healthy self-esteem – figuratively speaking, it serves as a buffer that allows the child to cope with the negative attitude of his peers.

Therefore, you should give your child a chance at prosperity and a happy life in the future.

Here are a few tips to help your child feel at home:

1. Show unconditional love for your child. A child should always believe that regardless of whether he succeeds or fails, his parents love him, support him and will always stay with him.

Imagine a situation when a child is loved only when he behaves in a certain way. Think about how this affects your child’s self-esteem.
2. Help your child set achievable goals. This will be of great benefit for raising his self-esteem than for achieving success in life. After that, help your child achieve his goals.

start with goals that are very easy to achieve. Let your child taste the success and self-confidence. These feelings will help him in the future. For example, such a small goal could be to clean up a child’s room.
3. Encourage your child to persevere. Success and perseverance go hand in hand. Develop perseverance in your child – so you will help him achieve much in life.

praise the child when he is trying to cope with a difficult task and does not give up;
A good way to help your child develop perseverance is to set a good example for him. Show him what it means to not give up in the face of difficulties.
4. Give your child a choice. It is difficult to be self-confident if you cannot control your own life. Therefore, you should give your child a choice, even in simple situations. For example, you can ask him which of the two dishes to choose from for dinner or what he wants to wear at school.

5. Do not force your child to be perfect. Trying to be perfect is a game in which there are no winners. When a child realizes that it is simply impossible to be ideal, his self-esteem will suffer.

show the child that you value his achievements and the efforts he is making. Notice his slightest achievements.
6. Avoid excessive praise. Children notice overplayed or overrated praise. This undermines the child’s self-confidence, and does not increase it.

praise the child only when there is a real reason for it. In addition, praise is appropriate when the child makes an effort to achieve a goal.
7. Let the child hear you praise him in the presence of other people. This greatly enhances his self-esteem and self-confidence.

your child is always looking at you. Use it for the good of him and yourself.
8. Take care of yourself. Your careful attitude to yourself serves as a signal for the child that you consider yourself important. He will believe that he is also important and therefore must take care of himself. In other words, taking care of yourself, you set a good example for your child.

Without a doubt, a child with high self-esteem becomes happier and more confident in himself. We wish only the best for our children, therefore our task is to help them in this.

The way we treat our children at home can greatly affect their future. Teach your child to love yourself and believe in yourself – and this will benefit him for life.
